Since 1982

Welcome to Deerfield Beach Church of God of Prophecy

A community of people from all walks of life, pursuing faith, hope, and love together — by faith, leaning on the Lord.

Our Story

Our church was born out of faith in 1982. At the Florida State Convention that July, Bishop Eugene Johnson appointed Brother Mark Berry to a new mission field in Deerfield Beach. A licensed deacon from the Hallandale Church of God of Prophecy, Brother Berry and his wife stepped out without pastoral training into unknown territory — soon joined by Brother Moses Mullings and others who believed in the work.

The first service was held on October 1, 1982, in a rented hall on SE 2nd Terrace. Eleven people gathered that day. From those humble beginnings, the small congregation sold dinners and raised funds through season after season, worshiping wherever the Lord made room — a borrowed corner of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and then, in 1986, the old St. Paul Methodist building, which four brothers co-signed to purchase, putting their own homes on the line for the church.

The members renovated that building with their own hands, and it was dedicated in April 1987 with just seven members. As the church grew, the congregation stepped out in faith once more — breaking ground on a new sanctuary in May 1998 and, after years of sacrifice, holding the first service in the building we call home on August 9, 2000. Through every heartache and setback, the saints of Deerfield Beach never gave up. We have come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord — to God be the glory.

That same faith carries on today. One of the ministers who helped pull the permits and break ground for our sanctuary in 1998 was a man named Franklyn Capron — who, together with his wife Lorna, now leads this church as our senior pastors.

Meet Our Senior Pastors

Bishop Franklyn & Sister Lorna Capron

Bishop Franklyn Capron and his wife, Minister Lorna Capron, serve as the senior pastors of Deerfield Beach Church of God of Prophecy. Bishop Capron has served faithfully for more than 43 years in the Church of God of Prophecy, holding many positions along the way — including Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Associate Pastor, National Public Relations Director for Turks & Caicos, and District and State Education Director for the State of Florida.

His central vision for the congregation is to equip, build, and develop a kingdom of empowered people for God. Alongside him, Minister Lorna Capron ministers faithfully through preaching, prayer, and care for the church family — a calling she has shared with the church since its building years in the 1990s.

Bishop and Minister Capron have been married for 46 years and are blessed with four children, two daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, and a grandson. Together they lead with a simple conviction: everyone matters to God, and there is a place for everyone at Deerfield Beach.

What We Believe

Our Statement of Faith

As a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, we hold to these biblical convictions.

02
The Trinity
We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
03
The Cross
We affirm Christ's deity, virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death, resurrection, and ascension.
04
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the essential work of the Holy Spirit for salvation, sanctification, and empowerment.
05
Family
We are committed to the sanctity of marriage and the importance of strong, loving Christian families.
06
Unity
We believe in the unity of believers, as Jesus prayed in John 17:20–23, to display God's love.
