“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.”
— Genesis 1:31 (NIV)
In the very beginning, there was nothing at all. No sun, no sky, no birds, no trees. Just God. And God was about to make something wonderful.
God said, “Let there be light!” And light shined out, bright and warm. God made the sky up high and the deep blue oceans down low. He made dry land, with soft grass, tall trees, and flowers in every color.
Then God filled the world with good things. He set the bright sun in the day and the gentle moon and twinkling stars at night. He made fish to splash in the sea and birds to sing in the air.
God made animals too — big elephants, hopping rabbits, and playful puppies. He looked at everything He had made, and it was good. So very good!
Best of all, God made people. He made the first man and the first woman, and He made them special, to be like Him and to love Him. God smiled. People were His favorite part of all.
When everything was finished, God rested. He looked at the whole big beautiful world and was happy. And do you know what? God made you too. He loves you very, very much.
The Big Idea
God made the whole world, and He made you on purpose. You are special and loved by God.
Reflect & Discuss
- 1.What is your favorite thing God made?
- 2.How does it feel to know God made you on purpose?
- 3.What can you do to take care of the world God gave us?
A Prayer
Dear God, thank You for making such a beautiful world. Thank You for the sun and the animals and the trees. And thank You for making me! Help me to love You and take care of all the good things You made. Amen.
