“Don’t be afraid. The Lord will fight for you; you only need to be still.”
— Exodus 14:14 (paraphrase)
God’s people had finally left Egypt, where they had been slaves for a very long time. They were free at last! But then they heard a scary sound behind them — Pharaoh’s army was chasing them, with horses and chariots!
In front of them was a huge sea. Behind them came the army. The people were so afraid. There was nowhere to run!
But Moses said, “Don’t be afraid! Stand still and watch what God will do. God will fight for you.”
Then Moses held out his hand over the sea. All night long God sent a strong wind, and the water split apart — a dry path went right through the middle, with tall walls of water on each side!
God’s people walked across safely, all the way to the other side. God kept every one of them safe.
When they were all across, the water came back together again. God had rescued His people! They sang and danced and thanked Him.
The Big Idea
When we feel scared and stuck, we can trust God. He can make a way even when it looks like there is no way.
Reflect & Discuss
- 1.How did God help His people cross the sea?
- 2.What do you do when you feel scared?
- 3.Can you think of a time God helped you or your family?
A Prayer
Dear God, thank You that You are big and strong and You take care of me. When I feel scared, help me to trust You, because You can always make a way. Amen.
