The Queen of Sheba

The Queen of Sheba

1 Kings 10 · 2 Chronicles 9

“Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you.”

1 Kings 10:9 (NIV)

Far away, in a rich and beautiful land in Africa, there lived a powerful queen. She was the Queen of Sheba, and she wore golden crowns and bright royal robes.

One day she heard wonderful stories about a king named Solomon, who lived in a faraway country. People said he was the wisest king in all the world. “I want to see if it is really true,” said the queen.

So she packed up a long line of camels with gold, sweet-smelling spices, and shining jewels. Then she traveled a very, very long way to visit King Solomon.

When she arrived, the queen asked Solomon all of her hardest questions — every single one she could think of. And do you know what? Solomon had a good and wise answer for each one!

The queen looked all around at his beautiful palace and his happy people. She was so amazed that she could hardly believe her eyes.

“Your wisdom is even greater than the stories I heard!” she said. “Praise God, who made you a king to do what is right and fair.” Then she gave Solomon her gifts, and went home with a happy heart.

The Big Idea

The Queen of Sheba went looking for the truth, and when she found it she praised God. We can ask our big questions too, and thank God for all His good gifts.

Reflect & Discuss

  • 1.Why did the queen travel so far to see King Solomon?
  • 2.What did the queen do when she saw how wise Solomon was?
  • 3.What is a big question you would like to ask God about?

A Prayer

Dear God, thank You for giving wisdom and good gifts to Your people. Help me to look for what is true, and to praise You like the queen did. Amen.
