“The water I give will become a spring of water inside you.”
— John 4:14 (NIV)
One hot, sunny day, Jesus walked a long way and got very tired. He sat down to rest beside a deep well, where people came to get water.
A woman came to the well all by herself. She had made many mistakes, and many people did not want to be her friend. But Jesus smiled and said, “Will you give Me a drink of water?”
The woman was surprised. People usually walked right past her. But Jesus talked with her kindly, like she really mattered to Him.
“I can give you living water,” Jesus said. He didn’t mean water from the well. He meant God’s life and love, filling her up inside like a happy, bubbling spring that never runs dry.
Then something wonderful happened. The woman who used to feel left out felt loved! She was so happy she left her water jar and ran back to town as fast as she could.
“Come and see!” she called to everyone. “Come and meet Jesus!” And many people came, because Jesus is kind to everyone — and He wants to be our friend.
The Big Idea
Jesus is kind to everyone, no matter what. He loves you and wants to be your friend, and His love fills us up like living water.
Reflect & Discuss
- 1.How did Jesus treat the woman that other people walked past?
- 2.What did the woman do after she met Jesus?
- 3.Who can you be kind to this week, just like Jesus was?
A Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for being kind to everyone and for wanting to be my friend. Fill me up with Your love like living water, and help me be kind to others too. Amen.
